Buildings and Grounds Committee Update

Thank you to all who completed their Buildings and Grounds survey.  We’re still compiling the information.  Welcome to new committee members: Scott Polacek, Deacon’s representative, Gerry Bills and newest “as he’s available” member, Dennis Worthy.  Thank you to Avis Marsh for her service as Deacon’s representative last year.  Jodee Plazek and Scott Paulson are THRILLED to have our small committee of two, swell to five.  We could still use 1-2 more members, talk to Jodee or Scott if you’re interested or just have questions.

We’re seeking bids to see what it will cost to replace the roof and windows as well as estimates for how long they’re likely to last.  We don’t anticipate replacing them this year. We’re looking ahead.  If any members have suggestions for reliable contractors, please contact Jodee or Scott.

THE BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE is looking for church members who are skilled in brick laying, to volunteer to plan/direct a work day, to repair decorative bricks fallin away from the front of the manse.  Or maybe you know of a referral or recommendation for a contractor.  If you can help in any way, contact Jodee at 423-8885 or Scott at 768-1240.

THANK YOU TO GARY WANDALL for helping Gerry and Mike Bills clean the church most weeks.  Other cleaning volunteers would be much appreciated.  Please see the sign up sheet in the hallway.

CONGRATULATIONS

Bag Ladies Lunch

If you are not sure just what the "bag ladies" are about, let's have a refresher.

The bag ladies are church women who get together for fun and fellowship. We Christian women come from different places with different life experiences. We all have our own baggage.  We meet to love and support and learn from each other and have a little fun along the way. We each bring our own bag lunch.  Activities are usually a mixed bag of games, quizzes; sometimes we discuss a topic of particular interest, sometimes a scripture reading or just conversation.  Sometimes we even have a grab bag of prizes.

Bag Ladies will be meeting, henceforth, on the first Wednesday, of each month, beginning in July.  All are welcome.

The next get together will be held at the home of Josephine Brandes, 7468 Karth Court, Franklin, Wednesday, July 2nd, @ 11:00 am.  No reservations required.

Buildings & Grounds Join US

Your Building and Grounds Committee is looking for your time, talents and treasures. We are currently a committee of 5, wishing to be a committee of 6.  We're trying to figure out what all our duties/responsibilities are.  If you notice anything we should be doing, call Jodee Plazek at 423-8885 or Scott Paulson at 768-1040.  You don't need to be an electrician or carpenter (although they'd be welcome).  Just visit us with your time - see what talents you can offer.

TIME TO PLAN!

MILWAUKEE PRESBYTERY PW FALL GATHERING is scheduled for OCTOBER 4, 2008, at APOSTLE PRESBYTERIAN, WEST ALLIS.  Registration is at 8:30am, and will run until mid-afternoon.  ---  Check the bulletin board, ladies, for details.

Living Each Moment

The spirit is an area of growth most of us set aside, half hoping the day will come when some soul-searching peak experience will lift us out of our ordinary consciousness for a glimpse of the sacred and eternal. But we have to prepare our consciousness for taking such a path. We need to change the way we measure time and to relax our insistence on control ….. Instead of focusing on the time running out, it should be a daily exercise…. To mark the moment. The present never ages. Each moment is like a snowflake, unique, unspoiled, unrepeatable, and can be appreciated in its surprisingness ….. If every day is an awakening, you will never grow old. You will just keep growing.

Mission Projects at Faith

·        New Life Church.  Food is accepted each week for the Food Pantry at New Life Presbyterian Church, Milwaukee.  New Life is very actively serving the neighborhood where they are located.  They can use our help in having additional food for the pantry.  Donations of money can also be made to the New Life Food Pantry so they can purchase extra food through Second Harvester.  There is also a need for clothing, shoes and household items.  Please bring donations with you to church and drop them off in the big basket at the far end of the hallway.  Please contact Judy Bell to have these items taken to or picked up by New Life.

·        Black Shoes Needed.  The children at St. Marcus Lutheran School in the Milwaukee Inner City need new or lightly used black shoes (no gym shoes).  The boys and girls range in age from 4 years old to 8th graders.  The objective of the school is to bring the children to Christ and to prepare them for college.  Many of them are under foster care, extended family care, etc. and are low income.  Check your closets at home and bring shoes to church.  If you don't have children's shoes, that's okay, many of the older students wear adult sizes.  If you have questions, contact Judy Behnke at 414-423-9750.

I am surviving with Advanced/Terminal Breast Cancer and I have learned how to make turbans from tee shirts for women who are without hair due to chemo.  Just the bottom half of the tee shirt is used and the rest is cut up and donated for rags.  Seeing they are made mostly from cotton they are very comfortable to the bald head.  I am looking forward to volunteering and going to Oncology offices and teaching these cancer stricken women how to creat their own turbans.  This would be a non-profit adventure.  I am looking for tee shirt donations and as long as the bottom of the tee is in good condition I can use them.  They can be of any color.  If you would like to make a donation, there will be a box at the back of church for the tees.  Or, you can call me at 764-6293.  Thank you for all of your help.  Diana Kuehn
